Workin' Hard Or Hardly Workin' ?

Many of the factory employees worked much harder than we do today. They had hard times working, working from sun up to sun down. Hands and feet worn down, eye lids barely open, factory worker's jobs were their lives ! From the songs they sang describes their work days. "Song of the Shirt" is about a rough day, just to make a shirt. Nimble minds were hard to find, as all dreaded to even wake up and go to work. Their must have been just miserable. Waking up early to go to the factory; some even lived on the factory grounds. Working hard with little pay until late during the day and dragging themselves back home to do it all again in the morning. Because of these conditions, the whole labor laws have been established. Who knows where we'd be if those working lives followed us today ?
