I Am !

   I Am another minority student
I Wonder where my identity has gone
I Hear the country calling out to me
I See my ancestors hard work and struggle to make it to America
I Want to be recognized as an individual
   I Am another minority student

I Pretend to not be bothered
I Feel that I will be successful
I Need to not listen to the negatives
I Worry I will not reach my goal
I Cry tears of joy when I see the finish line
   I Am another minority student

I Understand it will not be easy
I Believe in my intentions being pure
I Dream of a happier life
I Try not to get violent with my enemies
I Hope one day people will look up to me, as I do them
I Am just another minority student

Topic Eleven, Civil Rights Frenzy !

MLK and Civil Disobedience- Martin Luther King Jr, had pacifist ideals and to fight back with action, but non violent action, civil disobedience not one black would step foot on a bus or use black restricted areas so that the law of  segregation would be changed

Power of the "Mob"- People were scared to speak out and go against the mob because there were so many of them, and one voice would or would not be able to change that. Others were abused and hurt for going against the mob

Plessy V Ferguson vs. Brown V Board of Education- Segregation laws comply with black and whites as too many incidents happen

Civil Rights Goals- Goals for non segregation and equal rights

Eisenhower's Role In Little Rock- As Arkansas would not let the 9 go to school, Eisenhower ordered the Army against the National Guard to protect the 9 to go to the school

Rights of the Accused- Sixth Amendment, Can Have Attorney, Right To Counsel, Miranda rights

Brown V Board of Education- Oliver Brown sues school board because his 8 year old daughter wasn't allowed in school, started the Civil Rights Movement, ruled unconstitutional to have segregated schools

Chavez and the United Farm Workers- Giving the farmers a voice to get paid and work decent hours, anti immigration

FHA and ADA- Outlaws prejudice to sell or rent housing, and areas must have handicapped access

Purpose Of Filibusters- Allows the groups and associates' voices be heard and given a chance to state their position

Sit-ins and other Protests- Fighting without violence, boycotting what they didn't want to be a part of, and proving that segregation was a mind set thing

MLK vs. X

Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, two tremendously important leaders to the Civil Rights movement. MLK was a passive aggressive leader, meaning he did not believe in violence. X on the other hand was the total opposite, not necessarily violence, but by any means necessary to get what and where they want. Similar, they both impacted the whites and blacks of America during the Civil Rights Movement. Some listened to MLK and when someone was rude or physical, they were kind and forgiving. Those that followed X's beliefs were rude back and took the opposer down. In common though, they stood strong in what they believed in, not stepping down no matter how threatened or spoken to. In the end they both get assassinated for their teachings. In all I believe Martin Luther King Jr's ideals were more effective, because with not fighting back with fist or attacks, they just lived their own lives AROUND the trouble of the white law. Which affected the economic balance because buses and restaurants needed their business. One could learn to fight, without actually fighting.

Meritocracy In The House !

Do you think that people perform by the way they're perceived ? Well the definition of meritocracy states; "an elite group of people whose progress is based on ability and talent rather than on class privilege or wealth." In the experiment of "The Class Divided" the teacher had put blue collars on the students who were said to be "less important" than the said eye color of the others (Blue or Brown). The students that we said to be "better" completed an alphabet flash card assignment in less than 3 minutes, but in the previous day when they were the lesser group, it took them about five minutes. This occurs almost every day in a typical life. People who are EXPECTED to do better, tend to have somewhat of a drive to do so, because they know their better when compared to another person or group of people. There's no way of changing this though, people will forever assume one is better than the other, and one will continue to excel as the other is left behind, it is the way of the world, and I'm not sure if it will ever come to a point where we're all equal to a point where we all excel.

Rockwell's Work

In one of Rockwell's paintings, there is a scene of many males huddled around the counter of a diner. Doc's Diner and they're discussing their wives and how all of them are continuously nagging them. Everyone goes in to Doc's from time to time and loves his scrambled eggs. But today there was a strange man, who just came in and ate the eggs, then walked away. This man wore a dark brown trench coat and a hat that covered his eyes. Doc had left his plate out and his knife. What a peculiar man, not conversing with anyone in the diner, new to the town. Doc suspected him to be a Communist, so he is asking the rest of the guys what should he do. Report him in ? But Doc doesn't even know the man's name !

Artifacts Alive !

http://cgi.ebay.com/WWII-Yellow-Star-David-Jew-Identity-Button-Holocaust-/360317173919?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53e493c09f#ht_2096wt_943
This particular artifact from World War II interested me. It is one of the Star of David pins that were used to identify the Jewish people in Europe during Hitler's reign of terror. To many of us this simple pin means nothing but a novelty item, but to those that were labeled with it, it marks death and torture. Hitler enforced the Nazi party to label homosexuals, disabled, Jewish, and many others with pins of some sort that did not fit into the Aryan race. This item's significance is so indescribable as those Jewish families that wore these shameful pins HAVING to be identified because of their religion. Then later shipped off to a concentration or death camp. Just think if you were labeled for being Christian by wearing a cross, or Hindu and wearing an Olm, or even Muslim and having a moon and star on your clothing ? Today we actually do label ourselves, only because it is acceptable... If only the Jewish stars were acceptable, then many of lives would not have perished in Hilter's time.

High Schools And Atrocities.

High schools limit a lot of learning to their students in these times. But why ? Do we not have the right to know about the horrific events that take place ? For one, the Raping of Nanking during World War II time period was just as bad as the Holocaust, yet we've never heard of it. As Japanese soldiers entered Nanking, China, and demolished the area, killing its people and raping their women. How sick and disgusting is that ? Such a tragic event should be taught, so students have an idea of what is possible in this world, instead of being sheltered that everything in the world can be worked out. Another example, Chechnya Russia, the abuses and refugees that go around. How do we not know of these events ? High school history teachers should teach these events, to keep students informed and on their toes of the evil in this world.

Should We Step Up ?

Genocide, when was the last time you heard about it ? Back in World War II ? Psh, well my friend you are way behind, because it's happening right now ! It never stopped happening ! All around the world countries are physically, mentally, psychologically, spiritually breaking down others. Do our governments know about this ? YES, they do ! But here you may ask, why have we not heard about this ? Like tribes in the Central Africa or Middle East, or even in Asia ? Our governments decide to turn the blind eye and not announce it to us. We should get involved and help ! Just because it doesn't affect the United States in any way does not mean we shouldn't care. I mean, America is made up of many diversities, and in those diversities come immigrants from those same countries that ARE effected. So in a way, we ARE affected and involved. Someone needs to step in and tell those who are destroying another culture, race, or kind of people to just stop and try and live with them instead of massacring them. How much blood will need to be shed until someone does something about it ?

Sacco & Vanzetti, Guilty Or Innocent ?

Sacco and Vanzetti were two anarchists, Italian immigrants. They were accused of killing two men during an armed robbery. Held trial for their accusation investigators were stooped. Our evidence is flawed. We have look through the crime scene, searching for any kind of clues to fully turn the case one way or another. Did Sacco and Vanzetti commit the crime ? The Buick found in the woods, quite an eye catcher. Whomever parked this vehicle, stripping it of its license plate did not want any one to find it. Another peculiar item of trial was the same date of the deportation of Feruccio Coacci. Quite odd to have a friend being deported the same day a murder took place. Maybe Coacci was a close friend with our suspects Sacco and Vanzetti ? A lot of questions arising within this case. Was Coacci involved with the murder ? We then went to visit his home to find tire imprints from the same tires as the Buick previously found in the woods... Getting interesting ehh ? We go to ask more questions at the house, only to find our informant has disappeared. To this point I think they must be guilty of the trial. As one can clearly see the facts may be missing a few pieces, but in general it spells it out that Sacco and Vanzetti have to had something to do with this murder ! They were the only two around afterwards, suspecting that they could pass as innocent bystanders. As their friend Coacci drove the said car, Buick, into the woods to distract our path right back to them. Testimonies labeled Sacco a murderer seeing him with two gunmen, but not Vanzetti, maybe he was behind the scenes, or even covered his face to look different ? Sacco is definitely guilty, Vanzetti I may question, but the company you keep is what describes yourself, am I right ? In the end Vanzetti was a good friend to take a fall for it, but I still think Sacco deserved his punishment too, as they both seemed in cahoots in this investigative case. What would you think about going against this trial ? Would you have let Vanzetti go ? Would you have believed Sacco ? These are the questions we as investigators ask one another. Evidence is key, but our gut never failed us before...

Scope This Trial Out

John T. Scopes was charged with teaching evolution instead of religion. That the "civilized man" eradicated the savages i.e. Homo Sapiens < Homo Sapien Sapiens. Typically he was trailed over his teachings. Was it so wrong for children to have knowledge of evolution, whether it is true or not. Scientifically evolution has a concrete defense, but as humans we need something to feel secure that we know, and so come religion. To teach either of these topics can be difficult as there may be some that feel strongly about the other. Personally I for one people should stop being ignorant and let the schools teach both. It's resourceful for their children to be open minded. They don't necessarily have to believe in which ever, but to learn about it, have the knowledge of the possiblities of life. People in today's generation are very narrow minded and ignorant. Teaching the younger generation to accept the ideas of others and be open-minded might be beneficial to our society. Of course people who oppose this theory would prove stronger support but who knows. Both evolution and religion should be taught in school so whatever people would want to believe in, they can have a background knowledge of their choice and the background knowledge of the opposing theory.

Gritty Gangsters

1920's; an ideal decade for American gangsters. John Dillinger, Bonnie & Clyde, Pretty Boy Floyd, Al Capone, Machine Gun Kelly, all major gangsters of the period. Not like the term "gangster" we've come to think of today, such as drug cartels and enemy gangs i.e. Bloods / Crippes. These gangsters were focused on business. Yes they were to be feared, but they loved to negotiate. Our nation has organizations that have been formed just because of their outrageous criminal activity. The FBI was formed because John Dillinger had robbed several banks and even escaped from prison by carving a wooden pistol. Bonnie & Clyde were the first male/female duo criminal couple. They swept the nation on a robbing spree. Al Capone, "Scarface", bootlegged alcohol for people to consume as the 18th Amendment was passed so one could not manufacture or sell alcohol. Then later getting locked away for tax invasion. Ironic don't you think ? But in the end, big business gangsters dwindled and later emerged the violence we know of today, but we still have to thank these figures, though they WERE criminals, you can't help but respect them, as they did what they did in style.
